Newcastle defender Davide Santon says he will always be thankful to Jose Mourinho for the influence he had on him as a youngster at Inter Milan.

The Italian was handed his professional debut by the Real Madrid coach in the 2008/09 season while at the Serie A club.

Santon, 21, was pleased to have been given the chance to play regular first-team football after the Portuguese coach made him switch to the unfamiliar full-back position.

Jose Mourinho had a big influence on my career at Inter Milan, Santon told The Mirror.

Eredivisie club Twente have confirmed they have dismissed head coach Co Adriaanse with immediate effect.

The 64-year-old Adriaanse was named Twente coach at the start of the 2011-12 campaign and has guided the Enschede side to third place in the Eredivisie table, the round of 32 in the Europa League, as well as winning the Johan Cruyff Shield.

However, the flamboyant coach has had a troublesome relationship with Twente president Joop Munsterman ever since the start of his spell at the Grolsch Veste and the club have now decided to let go of Adriaanse.

Assistant coaches Boudewijn Pahlplatz, Alfred Schreuder and Youri Mulder will replace Adriaanse until Twente find a permanent replacement.
